Team Building: A Half Day Can Make All the Difference

Team Building: A Half Day Can Make All the Difference

The business world, the sports world, and even the scouting world have one very important thing in common: teamwork. Without it your company, your team, or your troop will not succeed. However, there is a difference between knowing the importance of teamwork and getting your group to work as a team. Sometimes this seemingly simple task can be more difficult than you’d imagine, especially when there is underlying conflict amongst your group.
A Half Day Can Make All the Difference
Presented in a fun and creative way, team building exercises, like the Web (below), challenge the members of your group to step out of their comfort zones and work together to solve various tasks. These tasks can range from working as team to place a tire over a very tall pole (King’s Finger) to walking as a team on a pair of boards (Trollies) to getting each member of your group up and over a wall (The Wall).

Physical Activity:

Easy to:  Medium
Equipment: Web, Rope
Lessons Learned: This classic team building challenge involves a great deal of teamwork and problem solving. In order to succeed, your team must work together to pass each member of your group through the web without touching the strings. How will your team handle this challenge? Will they work together? Who will take on leadership roles? Perhaps most importantly, how will you get that last person through the web without touching the ropes? With one simple task – one hour – your group can break down communication barriers and start to actually function as a team.

If you are looking for a team building activity that is a little less physically demanding, the web can be modified. Instead of passing members of your team through the web, your group will have to work together to wave a rope through the web in a predetermined pattern. While very different from the first variation of this team building activity, both require your team to communicate and problem solve, forcing them outside their comfort zone in a fun and beneficial way.
